Major symptoms of boron and calcium deficiency in banana plants of Kerala
1.Improper opening of flower of banana plant
2.Fresh leaves appear to be as if torn like and broken in appearance
3.White appearance of leaves of fresh infloresence
4.Leaves appear to be more thickened and give a wavy appearence
Solution for banana boron deficiency
1.Apply Borax 2 gram per litre of water and directly spray on the leaves of the banana plant for easy absoprtion and quick relief
2.Basal application of 500 gram Lime powder for each banana palm
3.Application of Ayar (Micronutrient mixture developed in Kerala ) apply every second and fourth month at 100 grams each
4.Application of Solubor fertilizer is also recommended
How to protect banana plant during the summer season
1. Cover exposed banana roots using dried leaves or coconut leaves to prevent moisture evaporation and prevent moisture runoff
2.Water atleast every third day in the summer
3.Atleast 12 hour daily water must be provided if drip irrigation is given
4.Apply Sulphate of Potash / SOP at 5gram per liter to be sprayed on banana leaves to help withstand drought at two week intervals
